I have terrible credit. The last time I checked it at the free government website to do so was about a month ago, and it said my score was 595. I have one item in collections (it’s a medical bill I’m disputing, long story), tons of student loan debt that is still in deferral, and about ,000 of credit card debt.

If I pay ,000 towards my credit card debt all in one lump sum (in addition to continuing regular monthly payments), do you think that will increase my credit score? Is there a way I can estimate how many points it will go up?

Momm,

Even if, by paying the lump sum, I’m decreasing my ratio of debt to available credit??
