I was recently married, but had to file my FAFSA with the income of my parents. Unfortunately for me, they make a decent amount of money so I only got the Stafford Loan from the government. I need to get another 00 to pay for this semester of school but am not eligible to sign most loans by myself because my gross income is not enough. I have a good credit score, but without enough money history, I still can’t get the loan. I’ve asked my parents to cosign, but because I just got married they will not sign on anything for me. What can I do to get the money I need?

Will applying for a direct student loan affect my credit score?

August 5th, 2011 by admin | 2 Comments | Filed in Free Government Credit Score

I’m pretty sure that I don’t have a credit score right now – in the past, when I have applied for credit cards at specific stores such as Group USA or Aerie, I have been denied because I don’t have a credit score for them to work with. However, since I am really wanting to go to college and my parents have no money to contribute, I’m considering applying for a student loan from the government at StudentLoans.gov. Will the simple act of applying hurt my credit score, and if so, how much?

Thank you for your help!!! :)
This website is not a scam. I was directed there from the official, government-created FAFSA site. Thank you for the advice however!
