I’m 20 years old, and the only credit I’ve taken out myself are student loans from the government.
I was going to go to university after I graduated from high school, but I couldn’t raise enough money or get a private loan, so I went to community college instead.
In the fall of ‘09, my parents moved to a new place and asked if they could put the electric and water services in my name. They told me that they would pay the bill every month and it would look good on my credit report.
So, I just didn’t think much of it.
I just found a letter addressed to me today that said that an application for credit had been denied because my account had been sent to collections and that I had too many credit lines open.
I did not apply for this, nor did I have any knowledge that they were doing anything but paying the electric bill every month under my name.
I’m p*ssed, because this isn’t the first time they’ve shat on me. What can I do to cancel everything that is in my name and change my social security number so they can’t do it again?
